Spider Stacy, one of the three remaining founders of the legendary Pogues, struck up a wide-ranging conversation with Pat and Nick on BayFM’s Thursday lunchtime show, Up The Junction. The topics bounced from the exuberance at Pogues’ mid-80s shows at London’s legendary Mean Fiddler pub, to Spider’s wide ranging acting career on both sides of the Atlantic and to the parting of the ways with Shane MacGowan in the early 90s.
The Pogues will be in town over Easter for Bluesfest 2026, playing two shows built around a celebration of their classic second album – Rum, Sodomy and the Lash – featuring classics such as Dirty Old Town, A Pair Of Brown Eyes and Sally McLennane, along with a version of Eric Bogle’s And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda.
The Pogues onstage celebration is expansive and features some of Ireland’s most highly regarded performers. In addition to original members James Fearnley, Jem Finer and Spider, the lineup unites acclaimed guest vocalists Lisa O’Neill, Daragh Lynch of Lankum, Iona Zajac and John Francis Flynn, plus Bad Seeds drummer Jim Sclavunos and Goat Girl bassist Holly Mullineaux. Should be a great craic.
The interview was aired on 29 Jan around 12:45pm. To have a listen, go to the Up The Junction show page here.
