A tribute to Michael Law 2022 Award Recipient Philip Shine
This show is a special tribute to former and first Bay FM station manager Philip Shine.
Philip Shine joined Bay FM in 2018 and guided the station through a tumultuous four years, including bush fires, a pandemic and the 2022 Northern Rivers flood and landslide disasters.
But long before he led Bay FM, Philip Shine advanced Australia’s community broadcasting sector through his work managing stations in Sydney and at the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia.
Philip Shine received the prestigious CBAA Michael Law lifetime achievement award in 2022, prompting a collection of interviews with some of his mentors and former colleages.
He passed away peacefully surrounded by family in the Byron Shire on the 25th of September, 2024.
This tribute from Community Newsroom reporter Mia Armitage revisits interviews first broadcast two years ago, including some previously unaired ‘out-takes’, along with special acknowledgments made by other Bay FM presenters in the days following his death and music he loved.
