Today, we received the heartbreaking news of the passing of our former Station Manager and dear friend, the legendary Philip Shine who died after a long illness this morning. This loss deeply affects us all, as Philip was not just a leader but a cherished member of our BayFM family.
Philip served as our first-ever Station Manager from 2018 to 2022, and his impact on BayFM was nothing short of transformative.
Philip was involved in community broadcasting for 35 years and managed several stations including 2RES Sydney and of course, BayFM. He was also involved with the digital radio network and spent time as a board member of the CBAA.
Philip’s dedication and outstanding contribution to the community broadcast sector were recognised by the CBAA in 2022 when he was awarded the prestigious The Michael Law award.
We extend our sincere condolences to Philip’s partner and former Byron Shire Councillor, Cate Coorey and to Philip’s children Dom, Gabe, Sam, Jessica and Tobias.
Mia Armitage from BayFM’s Community Newsroom is working on a tribute to Philip that will be aired on soon. We hope this will be a fitting way to honour Philip’s rich legacy.
