Nell Schofield, Delvene Delaney and Simone O’Brien

Nelly and Sim from Roadtrip chatted with the divine Delvene Delaney on the eve of the release of her doco LOVE OF AN ICON: THE LEGEND OF CROCODILE DUNDEE. Featuring unseen behind the scenes footage found in Delvene’s late husband John Cornell’s archive, it’s a glimpse into the magical bonds of love between Cornell, Paul Hogan and the world.

Footage was discovered during the 4K restoration of the 1987 classic Aussie film inspired Delvene and her friend, media executive Victoria Baldock, to make a doco about the twists that made the film a reality.

Crocodile Dundee was made on a budget of $8.8 mill and earned $328 million at the box office, much to the delight of its Mum and Dad investors like ‘The Chardy Lady’ who features in the doco. It’s still the biggest grossing Australian film of all time, a phenomenon to this day.

Delvene has lived in the Northern Rivers for decades and with Cornell, built up the Beach Hotel and the Brunswick Hotel among other iconic local enterprises. She has also contributed to land regeneration and wildlife conservation.

Delvene shares her stories with generosity and joy, and even the odd kookaburra laugh.
