As Bob Marley famously sang, “One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.”

Music is Medicine. Karen’s hope is that it both evokes memories and perhaps introduces listeners to someone new.

May it land each week where needed.

20 Jul 2026

20 Jul 2026 Musical Medicine Podcast – 20 July 2026 Today’s Musical Medicine is full tilt Nostalgia.   Inspired by a word that can’t accurately be translated.  Natsukashii is a Japanese word used when something evokes a fond memory from your past. It’s a word you exclaim as a smile creeps across your face. For instance, when you hear a song you loved as a teenager, or when you come across an old train ticket stub in your pocket. In some cultures, nostalgia is often full of sadness. But natsukashii – which derives from the verb “natsuku”, which means “to keep close and become fond of” – indicates joy and gratitude for the past rather than a desire to return to it. In Japan, natsukashii is a reminder that you are fortunate to have had the experiences you’ve had in life. The fact that you cannot return to those experiences makes them all the more poignant. 🌸 🇯🇵 🎶  Who knows what treasures (or trash 🤔) will be played.

13 Jul 2026 Musical Medicine Podcast – 13 July 2026 Post Mullum Roots I’ve a bunch of tunes to play reflecting on the weekend of music as well as shows coming up. Music old and new. A dose of my much loved nostalgia and a chat with Magpie Diaries who is heading north for shows this weekend at Yellow Church Mullum and the Eltham.

6 Jul 2026

6 Jul 2026 Musical Medicine Podcast – 6 July 2026 A mixed bag today. Some new music from Karl S.Wiliams and David Keenan along with artists I’ve newly discovered and a blast of nostalgia.  I also sat in for Emma on Regard / the show before mine and played an hour of songs around the theme of Life and Death and Dying. Turning towards each other in times of grief. Can also be listened back to via BayFM website

29 Jun 2026 Musical Medicine Podcast – 29 June 2026 As Mullum Roots Festival draws ever closer I’ll continue to feature artists performing there on 11-12 July.  Last week I spoke to Lucie Thorne and today I’ll be chatting to Alex Lloyd ✨  I absolutely loved his first few albums and suddenly it’s 25+ years on from their release and I’ve been taking a dive back into his music and career to date. Despite loving the albums I’ve never had a chance to see Alex perform live and I’m so looking forward to catching him in Mullum.

22 Jun 2026 Musical Medicine Podcast – 22 June 2026 Today I chat with Lucie Thorne who is heading this way for Mullum Roots festival 11 – 12 July. Lucie is no stranger to this region but it’s been a while. So great to chat and I cannot wait to catch her and Hamish Stuart live in a few weeks time.  Before and after our chat I’ve a whole bunch of Musical Medicine to share

15 Jun 2026 Musical Medicine Podcast – 15 June 2026 So David Keenan released yet another outstanding new track this week called Protest Song. I’ve listened to it on repeat. Could not love it more !   Fanny Lumsden dropped a preview of her next album with a single titled Difficult Woman. I was putting together an entirely different show for tomorrow when struck with the knowing that the entire 2 hours needed to be Protest inspired songs.  Not necessarily angsty shouty songs but reflections, social commentaries and cries for a better more sane world. Well there may be a bit of angst 😬 You’ll have to tune in to find out.

8 Jun 2026

8 Jun 2026 Musical Medicine Podcast – 8 June 2026 Little bit of everything Today. New releases. Australian singer songwriters. Bit of lesser known Paul McCartney and some classic Elton.  A couple of covers. Some live Springsteen. Some nostalgia and some new stuff.  A soundtrack for your Kings Birthday Long weekend. *** NOTE a glitch in playback just after half way. If it stops just skip ahead slightly and hit play again to continue.

1 Jun 2026

1 Jun 2026 Musical Medicine Podcast – 1 June 2026 Inspired by seeing both the Kylie Netflix doco and the Micheal Jackson film this show is  an ode to Pop Music. A celebration of the genre with much blurring of lines into Motown, Disco, funk. The only criteria really to make the playlist is that it is upbeat and makes you feel good.  There are bound to be a few Trash or Treasure moments throughout.
