Bay FM encourages people to join as new volunteers. Experience is welcomed, but not crucial. We are always looking for new energy and ideas. Above all we need honest, reliable and confident people prepared to take on responsibilities.
If you want to be a volunteer at Bay FM there are a few things you need to be aware of:
  • You need to be a financial Member of Bay FM which costs $10 annually.
  • You need to be honest, reliable and prepared to take on responsibilities. It is also essential that you be clear-thinking and cool-headed.
  • We ask you to provide names of two referees that we may contact. Referees are contacted after your interview with a Bay FM Office Manager or Coordinator.
  • A volunteer must support the philosophy and Vision-Mission Statement of Bay FM.

Office Reception Volunteers operate in two shifts: 9am – 1pm or 1pm – 5pm. Volunteers in other areas commit to times that are relevant to the tasks and fit in with others in the team.

Due to the time and energy needed to impart knowledge and training of Bay FM operations, a 12 week commitment is required from new volunteers.

Here are just some of the areas that interns/volunteers contribute to on a daily basis.

The Bay FM Volunteer Program provides a great opportunity to participate and contribute to one of the largest community organisations in the Northern Rivers – providing significant entertainment, news and information throughout our region, and around Australia.

Our volunteer program is designed to provide opportunities to community members within our listening area. Bay FM seeks to initiate this important effort through the collaboration with community organizations, our listeners and our community colleges and educational centers.

One of the most effective, easiest and certainly the cheapest way to get involved in Bay FM is to volunteer your time to help out at the station. Everyone – from the front desk people, the people running the music library, the people keeping our signal broadcasting are volunteers.

It’s a great way to get involved in your community, to learn about radio and to get to know other great community minded people like yourself.

Bay FM is Byron Shire’s community radio station and is operated on a volunteer basis by individuals and groups from the Byron Shire Community. We are proud to be diverse, independent and educational. We are a non-profit organisation committed to providing progressive broadcasting in music, the arts and current affairs.

Being a volunteer at Bay FM is a challenging and rewarding position. We rely heavily in our dedicated team of volunteers to keep Bay FM broadcasting loud and clear. Each volunteer forms an integral part of the team here and we all work together to make Bay FM the outstanding radio station it is. We are always striving to create a unique and special on-air sound and to stay at the vital and cutting edge of Australian media.
