In 2019, Tones and I played her first Splendour in the Grass in Byron Bay as the winner of the Triple J Unearthed artist. Tones and I hit Splendour in the Grass’ Amphitheatre Stage on Friday 19th July at 12pm. It was her biggest stage and biggest audience she had ever played to.
The Australian artist’s musical world was just about to explode having just reached 2 million followers on Spotify and her single about her best friend coming out to his father ‘Johnny Run Away’ going Platinum.
BayFM’s Ange Kent interviewed Tones and I at Splendour in the Grass about birthing her career on the streets of Byron Bay, testing her new material and learning the craft of playing to capture the attention of an audience who were walking past the busker with no prior knowledge of who she was. Over 18 months, the crowd grew in the streets of Byron and Tones and I become popular amongst locals and the busking the community.
In 2020, Tones and I became the world’s number one songwriter after ruling the singles charts in 30 countries. This year, Tones and I has over 22 million monthly Spotify listeners, she took part in a world-first when her appearance on the first edition of Rolling Stone Australia was sold as a limited edition NFT. And to keep the achievements going, Tones and I has also taken out the top spot on the ARIA albums chart with her highly-anticipated debut album, Welcome to The Madhouse.
