With the deepest regret, we share the news of the passing of a much loved and respected musical icon, cultural crusader and all-round beautiful human, loved and respected by so many in the Byron shire, across Australia and around the world. Our hearts go out to those closest to him, and we send our deepest condolences to his immediate family and friends.
As our own hearts break, we find a slither of solace in the unitedness of our grief. This unity was built and nurtured by this man, his music and the entire OKA Collective along the way.
The world is a great deal emptier without him.
WARNING: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander listeners are advised that the following podcast contains the voice of a deceased person.
A very special audio creation comes from the archives of BayFM presenter Sista Rasela.
RESPECT every time.
In honour of our brother DidgeriSTU.
The OKAmentary – A project embarked on years ago to capture the absolute magic that surrounded every OKA gig there ever was and weave it between music and interviews with Stu, Charles and Chris. All part of the OKA Collective at that time.
The infectious OKA connection guided my soul towards its true calling. Community Radio. This man, his music, his philosophy, his message, his spirit, his cultural pride and ability to bring people together in a celebration of life that soared way beyond colour and creed, changed the way I walked through the world and the eyes I viewed it through.
Blessed to have shared a little of this precious life bathed in the OKA love.
Rest in Love and Peace.
