We’re pumped to be co-hosting a local songwriting competition showcasing original songs from artists in the Northern Rivers Region.

Whether you’re a rhyming rookie or a seasoned stage sensation, BaySounds could be your ticket to the next phase of your musical journey. We’re all about celebrating the undiscovered abilities and infectious rhythms of local artists, and we can’t wait to showcase your songwriting skills to the Northern Rivers and beyond.

Entries will be judged by a panel of industry experts including BayFM President and host of Northern Rivers Music Box, Ange Kent and BayFM host of Living Your Arts Off, Nathan Kaye. The panel will also consist of SAE Faculty Lead Dirk Terrill, a multi-award-winning composer, producer and engineer.

Submissions kick off 24 April 2024, and close 16 June 2024, so get your original songs ready to go!

The lucky winner of the BaySounds comp will have their original song recorded and mastered at SAE by the final year Audio Engineering students in the state-of-the-art recording studio through the amazing SSL Duality or Neve analogue desk.

You’ll also have the opportunity to perform at the SAE Byron Bay Open Day on Saturday 17 August 2024, featuring an outside broadcast on BayFM 99.9 and 4 weeks of guaranteed airplay rotation on BayFM.

Your recording session and Open Day performance will both be filmed for promotion on BayFM and SAE’s social media platforms to showcase your talents even further. Other media opportunities include BayFM radio interviews across the station’s rich mix of programs.

Are you ready to share your musical talents with the world? Submit one original track created by you in 2023/24 via a streaming link (e.g. Bandcamp or Soundcloud).

Along with your track and lyrics, you’ll be required to submit a portfolio which includes a short bio with an image of yourself plus a 100-word statement telling us what your song is about and what it means to you.

Good luck!!
