Hi everyone, and blessings at this time of peace, generosity and love. I hope you have a wonderful time with your family and loved ones in this beautiful Bungalung county or whereever you are reading this..
Today we speak about Peace in Bethlehem and the Holy Land where the Christmas story began so long ago with the birth of the Prince of Peace. The area of course lacks Peace, and the courageous actions of some young Israelis who have refused to go in the Army due to what they see as human rights abuses and conflict with Palestinian people gives hope that change is occurring. The young SHMINISTIM are conscientious objectors. Please go to their website and sign the letter which will be sent to the Israeli Minster of Defense. In this time when our affluence results in unwanted purchases, piles of rubbish and thrown away food it gives me reason to compare the harsh life Palestinians are living in the Gaza Strip right now, limited water, little food, or electricity, no heath care and no freedom.(the Israeli Occupied Territories).

FREE THE SHMINISTIM – ISRAEL'S YOUNG CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTORS. The Shministim are Israeli high school students who have been imprisoned for refusing to serve in an army that occupies the Palestinian Territories. December 18 marks the launch date of a global campaign to release them from jail
18 December 2008 Peace activists in Israel and around the world are participating on Wednesday in a day of action to call on Israeli authorities to release teenagers imprisoned for refusing to serve in the army for reasons of conscience. "I am not willing to become part of an occupying army... I am not willing to become one of those holding the gun pointed indiscriminately at Palestinian civilians, and I do not believe that such actions could bring any change except ever more antagonism and violence in our region." She has been held in isolation and deprived of family visits as punishment for refusing to wear a military uniform in prison. "I have witnessed this army demolishing, shooting and humiliating people whom I did not know… It hurts me when people, Palestinians, are being so brutally assaulted, and it hurts me when they later turn their hatred towards me because of it. I wasn't born to serve as a soldier who occupies another… My responsibility is to refuse." Yuval Oron-Ofir was jailed for the third time on 14 December. The 19-year-old explained his reasons for refusing to enlist: "There is another way, which is not the way of war. This is the path of dialogue, of understanding… of peace. This is why I shall not join an army behind whose actions I cannot stand and whose behavior I cannot justify." Teenagers who refuse to enlist because they do not want to find themselves in a situation where they may contribute to or participate in committing human rights abuses are generally sent to jail for months.
