FEATURE ALBUM. MARCIA BALL. ROADSIDE ATTRACTIONS. ALLIGATOR. 2011. Touring constantly must bring a different range of stimulus and a lifestyle that many think glamorous but at times it must be a trial many highs and lows. No daylight, many miles but at the end a receptive audience – the reward. Marcia Ball has done the hard yards and there is a confidence and swagger in this album. Ball’s playing is tinged with her New Orleans and Texas influences but it her songwriting which gives her latest album an edge. There are songs about maintaining relationships but the one that impacted the most related to Louisiana and its loss after neglect, oil spills and disaster “This Used to be Paradise”. Marcia Ball because of her “Roadside Attractions” is an attraction that you should indulge. · 2. Roadside Attractions. · 5. Look Before You Leap. · 6. I Heard It All. · 8. This Use To Be Paradise. · 11. Mule Headed Man. · 10. Sugar Boogie. · 12. The Party’s Still Going On. Produced by Gary Nicholson who works with Delbert McClinton. All songs by Marcia Ball.
Having seen Fishbone at Bluesfest I can only agree with Peter Noble – they are in my Top 10 as well. · 1. Fight the Youth. Fishbone. The Reality of My Surroundings. Sony/Columbia. 1991. · 12. Everyday Sunshine. Fishbone. The Reality of My Surroundings. Sony/Columbia. 1991. And from another Byron musical luminary Butler whom I quote “ Dylan wasn’t doin’ much for me so I went to the other tent where there were lots of people on stage and this black dude seemed to be having fun. They were good.” I assume he meant George Clinton. · 1. Free Your Mind and Your Ass Will Follow. · 1. Maggot Brain. From Funkadelic. Motor City Madness. The Alpha and Omega of Twisted Crazy Funk! Ace 2003.
