Who would have thought that the Best of Cruisin for a Bluisin for 2010 would start with  an Elvis song, a glam disco favourite, and ELO cover, a pop band from the 70’s and two Muddy Waters alumni.

·        14. Ain’t That Lovin’ You Baby. Eddie Riff. Got the Hill Billy Blues. 32 Black Blues Boppers. El Toro Records. 2009.

·        14. Tainted Love. Imelda May. Mayhem. Decca. 2010.

·        9. Hold On Tight. Lil’ Band of Gold. The Promised Land. Dust Devil Music.

·        6. Sweet Soul Vibe. The Steve Miller band. Bingo! Sailor Productions/Space Cowboy Records. 2010.

·        7. With the Quickness. James Cotton. Giant. Alligator.

·        1. 74 Years Young. Buddy Guy. Living Proof. Jive Records. 2010.

From the experienced to some youthful exuberance from Imelda May, Nick Curran and Little Joe McClerran. Blues of different colours.

·        1. Pulling the Rug. Imelda May. Mayhem.

·        2. Psycho.

·        3. Mayhem.

·        5. All for You.

·        4. Kill My Baby. Nick Curran and the Lowlifes. Reform School Girl. ElectroGrooveRecords. 2010.

·        5. Psycho.

·        7. Baby You Crazy.

·        9. The Lowlife.

·        1. Tough Lover. [Etta James cover.]

Guess I’m just a rock’n’roller at heart but there is nothing like Nick Curran at full throttle.

I just wanted to include Little Joe McClerran’s album “Believe I’ll Make a Change”. Root Blues Reborn Records. It’s contemporary old-school giving “currentcy” to early blues, front porch tunes similar in intent to our own C W Stoneking. Enjoy the indulgence.

·        3. Down at the Village Store.

·        4. Cocktails for Two.

·        5. Blues Before Sunrise.

·        10. Baby Please Set a Date.

·        12. She’s Got Something.

Probably no surprise that I’ve included some Ronnie Earl. Dr John or Los Lobos

·        2. Blues for Dr Donna. Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters. Spread The Love. Stony Plain.2010.

·        5. When I’m Right [I’m Wrong]. Dr John. Tribal. 429 Records. 2010.

·        2. Lissen At Our Prayer. Dr John. Tribal. 429 Records. 2010.

·        1. Burn It Down. Los Lobos. Tin Can Trust. Shock. 2010.

·        6. Do the Murray. Los Lobos. Tin Can Trust. Shock. 2010.

·        8. West L.A. Fadeaway. Los Lobos. Tin Can Trust. Shock. 2010.

·        10. Blues for Slim. Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters. Spread The Love.

Janiva Magness released “The Devil is an Angel Too.”[Alligator] as a dedication to all Foster Youth and Alumni it is at times both dark and uplifting.

·        5. Weeds Like Us.

·        6. Walkin’ in the Sun.

·        10. Your Love Made a U-Turn.

The Holmes Brothers also returned to recording after some significant health scares this to is an album of celebration. Their albums are soul - gospel infused.

·        3. Feed My Soul. The Holmes Brothers. Feed My Soul. Alligator. 2010.

·        8. I Believe You I Think. The Holmes Brothers. Feed My Soul. Alligator. 2010.

·        4. You’re the Kind of Trouble. The Holmes Brothers. Feed My Soul. Alligator. 2010.

El Toro Records dedicated to the recognition of Roots Rock Music. Got Them Hill Billy Blues. 32 Black Blues Boppers pays tribute to the many black artists who were influenced by country music radio in their childhood. A black concept of Rockabilly. [from the liner notes].

·        2. Crackerjack. Joe Clay.

·        3. I Wanna Know [Why You Love Me So]. Eddie Daniels.

·        7. Worried ‘Bout You Baby. Roy “Mr Guitar” Gaines.

Then there is the road hardened experience of two of the greatest James Cotton and Buddy Guy. Buddy 74 years young and James a Giant of the Blues 75 years young channelling the Blues through his young band in with an album dedicated to Koko Taylor.

·        3. On the Road.

·        5. Key Don’t Fit.

·        6. Living Proof.

·        10. Let the Door Knob Hit Ya.

Finish with two albums that would be near the top of the list both were enjoyable surprises.

·        1. Shake it Baby. Lynwood Slim and the Igor Prado Band. Brazilian Kicks.
