Jimmie Vaughan’s latest has the comfortable mellow swagger of joy and confidence. A founding member of the Fabulous Thunderbirds Jimmie was for a while overshadowed by his young brother Stevie Ray. After a break due to his brothers death Jimmie returned to put his own style of guitar playing on record and it is the sweet sound of rhythm and blues. Band members George Rains- the king of the shuffle and Bill Willis on Hammond B3 compliment the earthy rootsy sound. As the title suggests there is joy to be had in the blues, ballads and the favorites. Enlisting help from Kas Kasenoff[Sax], Lou Ann Barton[Vocals], Derek O’Brien[Guitar] and Ronnie James[Bass] Vaughan covers songs by Billy “The Kid” Emerson[The Pleasures All Mine], Jimmy Reed[Come Love], Johnny Ace[How Can You Be So Mean], Roscoe Gordon[Just a Little Bit] and Little Richard[Send Me Some Lovin’]. Texas Blues ain’t nuthin’ like it and Lou Ann’s vocals always come from the soul.
