OBITUARY: Pinetop Perkins. Blues pianist. Born Mississippi, July 7, 1913.

Died Austin, Texas, March 21, aged 97.

ONE of the very last of the surviving pre-World War II bluesmen, pianist Pinetop Perkins backed many of the greatest names in the blues, including Sonny Boy Williamson and Muddy Waters, before becoming a star in his own right and outliving almost all of his contemporaries.
