September 30, 1978, was a swing pianist of the 1950s. She played with Slam Stewart's trio in 1946, until 1951. In early 1952, Beryl Booker led a quintet which played at the landmark Jazz club Birdland at 315 W 44th St, NYC. Birdland was established in Manhattan in 1949, and is named after Charlie "Yardbird" Parker.

With Red Norvo from 1949 - 1953 nicknamed "Octopus" due to his huge hands and ability to play rapid yet light lines. After six months with Artie Shaw's Gramercy Five in 1953, Farlow put together his own group.

Ethel Waters voc; Doc Cheatham b. 13th June 1905 Nashville, Tennesse d. 2 June, 1997 was a jazz trumpeter, singer, and bandleader. Started  toured in band accompanying blues singers moved to Chicago in 1924 Followed King Oliver around Oliver gave young Cheatham a mute mute which Cheatham treasured and performed with for the rest of his career. Louis Armstrong would be a lifelong influence on Cheatham. Toured Europe in the 20's NYC in the 30's Cheatham was Calloway's lead trumpeter from 1932 through 1939. Many bands in the 40's and 50's Latin influence He led his own band on Broadway for five years starting in 1960, after which he toured with Benny Goodman. Toured again in the 70's in addition to his regular Sunday gig leading the band at Sweet Basil in Grenwich Village. Doc Cheatham continued playing until two days before his death, in 1997 eleven days shy of his 92nd birthday.

Was a self-taught pianist who never learned to read music, but was nevertheless one of the most ingenious jazz musicians in history. Although his admission to the Pittsburgh music union was initially refused because of his inability to read music, they eventually relented in 1956 and made him an honorary member. At 5ft 2 he sat on phone books, yet Garner managed to bridge the gap between stride and straight ahead styles.
