Barb Jungr was awarded a Nightlife Award in New York in 2008 for "Outstanding Cabaret Vocalist."

Zutty Singleton b. in Louisanna on 14th May 1898. d. in NYC July 14th 1975 Zutty Singleton was one of the most influential drummers of early Jazz. He popularised the use of brushes and his drum solos are now legends of Jazz. He had some of the best rhythm techniques of the era. Zutty got his start at the Rosebud Theatre in New Orleans with Steve Lewis when aged 15 in 1915. Later Zutty lived in Chicago in the 20's. New York in the 30's and In 1941, moved to Los Angeles and lead or played in a series of bands there. He continued to play up until he retired in 1970 and moved to New York City till he died in 1975.

May 11th 1906, in Georgia. d. May 26th 1973 in New York City. In the 1930s and 1940s he played with some of the great swing bands. From 1947 he led his own groups and recorded extensively, both as a sideman and as a leader.

Left school at 8 sold papers in the Bowery wanted to be a singing waiter. and by 18 he was.at the Phelham Cafe. Irving Berlin taught himself to play piano in his spare time. In 1911 he wrote his first hit song, and was aged 23 when he became world famous. The song sparked an international dance craze in places as far away as Russia, which also flung itself into the ragtime beat with an abandon bordering on mania.

One Hundred Years from Today 3:04 Maxine Sullivan The Chiaroscuro Songbook, Vol. 1 (V Young/N Washington/J Young) Allegro Corporation CRD #218 Maxine Sullivan voc; 1999 Maxine Sullivan famous for her recording of Scottish Folk song "Loch Lomond" which typed her and she did not get to record many jazz standards. b. 13th May 1911 in Pennsylvania married to bass player John Kirby till 1941. Appeared in a few movies made in the 30's and 50's. Then married to pianist Cliff Jackson in 1958, she learned to play the valve trombone. Became a Nurse in the 50's and 60's. In 1966 she returned to her music career appearing at festivals. Toured in Sweden in the 70's, France and Japan in the 80's. The last song she recorded was "Loch Lomond" She died aged 75 in 1987 in New York City.

April 8 1938. One of the most important musicians in the New Orleans style, he was renowned for his many ‘wa-wa’ effects.
Edmond Hall Blues 4:13 Edmond Hall Celeste Quartet Jazz Piano - The Stuff Is Here (Lewis) MC #059 Edmond Hall cl; Meade Lux Lewis celeste; Charlie Christian g; Israel Crosby b. 5/2/1941 NYC 1998 b. 15th May 1901 by 1919 he was tired of it and left for New Orleans Hall became one of the very few Jazz clarinetists who fully mastered the clarinet, with great clean technique at any tempo. Played with many from Chicago to NYC Joining Armstrong's All Stars would prove to be one of the highlights in Hall's career. The Band left in October 1955 for a tour of Europe. In February 1956 the combo made Los Angeles, California their home, to shoot the motion picture High Society starring Grace Kelley and Bing Crosby. A tour of OZ in May 1956 - Music maker Vol 1 #4 July 1956 has this to say: "... as a soloist Hall was outstanding, he brought the house down." He worked in the 1960's now and then with Eddie Condon. He made his final recording at John Hammond's 1967 Spirituals to Swing concert. Edmond Hall died on Wednesday February 12th 1967 at 11 A.M. He had shovelled snow from the side-walk in front of his house in Boston then he got in his car to go somewhere. While driving, he realised something had happened to him and steered the car to the curb. Edmond Hall died in his car of a heart attack, he was 65.

He was invited to the Salle Pleyel Jazz Festival in Paris, where he caused a sensation. d. May 14, 1959 in Paris, aged 62.

In 1966 he teamed up with Thad Jones forming the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra and it's been going ever since.
