Fri 09am - The New Shakedown
( 6 Articles )
Judy Boreham is stepping up to the mic as the new presenter of the New Shakedown, Fridays 9 - 11 am, following closely in the footsteps of Gina Baker, her former partner in BayFM show Upstaged.
Tune in for news, views and interviews on local, national and global issues and events to do with environment, human rights and social justice. And this is the place to hear the latest in local contemporary music, a New Shakedown tradition.
The Shakedown was the creation of Terrie Wells aka Red Terra. The programme debuted in 1988 on BayFm’s first mock broadcast, before the station even had an airwave. A pioneer environment programme here, indeed one of the first in Australia. “I want to shake it up. Change urban thinking to earth thinking, get people motivated to make change and remember what really matters; that without the Earth we are nothing.” Red loved to find experts and give them an opportunity to go deep, way beyond the 30 second grab. The show was issues based and focused mainly on Australian and local issues. Listen to campaigners and front line activists talk about climate change, nukes, genetic engineering, whales and whaling, forests and biodiversity. Also alternatives, positives, politics, politicians and globalisation.
“We live in times of giant emergency and those of us alive today have a huge responsibility: to learn to live today, so that those who come after us can have a tomorrow.” For the Earth. Red Terra passed away 2009. Go to this website and click on BayFM 99.9, then scroll down to 'The Shakedown' for interviews selected by Red: www.cpod.org.au/
