  • Fri 09am - The New Shakedown   ( 10 Articles )

judy borehamJudy Boreham is stepping up to the mic as the new presenter of the New Shakedown, Fridays 9 - 11 am, following closely in the footsteps of Gina Baker, her former partner in BayFM show Upstaged.

Tune in for news, views and interviews on local, national and global issues and events to do with environment, human rights and social justice. And this is the place to hear the latest in local contemporary music, a New Shakedown tradition.

    terrie 3

The Shakedown was the creation of Terrie Wells aka Red Terra. The programme debuted in 1988 on BayFm’s first mock broadcast, before the station even had an airwave. A pioneer environment programme here, indeed one of the first in Australia.
“I want to shake it up. Change urban thinking to earth thinking, get people motivated to make change and remember what really matters; that without the Earth we are nothing.”
Red loved to find experts and give them an opportunity to go deep, way beyond the 30 second grab. The show was issues based and focused mainly on Australian and local issues. Listen to campaigners and front line activists talk about climate change, nukes, genetic engineering, whales and whaling, forests and biodiversity. Also alternatives, positives, politics, politicians and globalisation.

“We live in times of giant emergency and those of us alive today have a huge responsibility: to learn to live today, so that those who come after us can have a tomorrow.”   For the Earth.

    Red Terra passed away 2009.

It covers a wide territory from Blues to Alt. Country and incorporates Folk, Singer/Songwriters, the music of Louisiana and all the southern American states.
Excellent Australian, British and Canadian artists in these genres are featured as well.  Each program is devoted to a particular artist, band or genre.

  • Tue 10pm - Long Strange Trip   ( 6 Articles )

matt'A Long Strange Trip' concentrated on the Music of the Grateful Dead for two years and has expanded its consciousness further in the last six months.

There is a genre of music coming out of the US loosely described as 'JAMBAND', It's more about the music than ever before, extended jams, stretching and exploratory improvisational live performances, as well as a fiercely independent and organic distribution of music and news!

Bands such as Widespread Panic, Phish, moe., Railroad Earth. Yonder Mountain String Band, Tea Leaf Green, Hot Buttered Rum, etc. All have an original style and a wonderful connection with their audiences..

I'll be playing choice live cuts from the jamband scene, giving you updates and news about the ever expanding festival scene, as well as new and vault releases and stepping back into the time machine to bring you more of the intense psychedelic music of the Grateful Dead, Zappa etc.

I'm pretty sure that if you listen to this show you will be exposed to music that has NEVER been played on Australian Radio!

So..... Light the Incense, settle back into the bean-bag or when in doubt: twirl!

Hit www.myspace.com/icecremekid for updates, playlists etc and if there is anyone you'd think I'd like or you'd like to hear, please, get in touch!!!

    The Ice Cream Kid

PS:  All live recordings played are sanctioned by the bands involved. There are lists out there of bands that encourage the taping and trading of live recordings so as long as NO MONEY changes hands.  It's all good.  Tune In!
